Located in the northwest of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Putorana Plateau can be attributed to one of the most interesting natural sights in Russia. Not without a reason this mountain range was included into the World Heritage list and the Evenki and other indigenous peoples consider these places sacred. “Putorana” is from the native language of the Evenks and translates to “the country of lakes with steep banks”.
In July 2010, the Putorana Plateau Reserve was inscribed on the World Heritage List as “a complete set of subarctic and arctic ecosystems in an isolated mountain range, including pristine taiga, forest tundra, tundra and arctic desert systems, as well as untouched cold-water lake and river systems”.
Plateau area – 250 thousand square kilometers, which is comparable to the United Kingdom territory. The highest mountain in the range is Mount Kamen which stands 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) above sea level.
This place is really really inaccessible.
From the nearest city – Norilsk – it takes seven or eight hours to reach the range by boat or several hours by helicopter. There is no roads at all.
The highest waterfall in Eurasia – Talnikovskiy located on plateau, the height of which, according to various estimates, ranging from 482 to 700 m.
Tourists can admire this miracle of nature only one or two months a year: a waterfall creates by a seasonal creek from table mountain Trapezium.
